SPIRIT Mentoring offers our clients an opportunity to spend time with a DDA certified Mentor in a 1:1 or 1:2 setting at their home or in the community where they can be physically active and learn about healthy behavior through hands-on experience in the real world. The goal of this program is to improve the health & independence of our members by helping them develop an appreciation and understanding of how they can be active on their own. Sessions can last anywhere from 1-3 hours, and Mentors work closely with members and their loved ones to develop social, physical and functional goals. Examples of Mentoring activities include going to community centers, swimming, tennis, park activities, community events, working on basic living skills such grocery shopping, public transportation, personal hygiene etc. The goals and focuses would be collaboratively defined by the Mentor, Member and Member’s loved ones with input from rest of the Spirit Club team. If appropriate, we work to pair members with one another to provide further social opportunities and encourage relationship building.
